The Queen’s children — Who are they?

No documentary about Queen Elizabeth II would be truly complete without a reference to Her children. The world’s media focuses primarily on Princes: Charles, Andrew and Edward, as well as on Princess Anne. Their public activity can be enthralling, while their private lives often stir up extreme emotions. The children of Queen Elizabeth II constantly attract media’s attention and have become an integral part of pop culture.

Prince Charles, the heir apparent to the throne

He is the first in line for the throne. At the same time, he is the oldest heir apparent in the British history. He does not idle, however. Prince Charles’ activities could make a film so interesting that it could even overshadow a documentary about Queen Elizabeth II. Living in a Highgrove mansion surrounded by nature resulted in Prince Charles taking an interest in organic farming. He promotes eco-farms development, and in the 1990s he had already established a business selling organic food. He fosters awareness and concern for the environment and combines it with charitable work. In any case, providing aid to those in need has been a feature of the British monarchy for years, as you can learn from documentaries about Queen Elizabeth II, for example.

Princess Anne, the only daughter

Unlike Prince Charles, Anne is really distant from the throne. She ranks fifteenth in the succession line. Probably no documentary about Queen Elizabeth II has devoted much attention to Princess Anne. This is all because the rigid British court etiquette has always been rather out of her way. And when she doesn’t like something, she speaks up about it. With her unruly statements, the Princess gets featured in the press from time to time. But she consistently remains true to herself. She was the first in the royal family’s history to take part in the Summer Olympics, where she represented Great Britain in equestrian sports. Besides sport, Princess Anne is also involved in charity work. The only controversial news about the Princess was the attempt to kidnap her in the 1970s, though thankfully the kidnapper was overpowered in time.

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York

Queen Elizabeth II’s middle son and Royal Navy vice admiral took part in the Falklands War. He is the eighth in line to the throne. He received regular newspaper coverage, quite often amid scandal. For one thing, it had to do with Prince Andrew’s disputable acquaintances and moral scandals. For another, he used to be very active on social media. His posts provided the public with news even more exhilarating than many documentaries about Queen Elizabeth II. In 2019, however, Prince Andrew made the decision to retire from public life, including social media. The British press must have been inconsolable.

Prince Edward, the youngest

Currently the twelfth in line to the throne, Prince Edward does not lounge around. After school he joined the Royal Marines, although he did not last there long. He was the only one of his siblings who developed an interest in theater and television. Instead of a documentary on Queen Elizabeth II, he commissioned a musical for her sixtieth birthday — by Andrew Lloyd Webber! This led to Prince Edward being involved in the production of The Phantom of the Opera. He put the gained experience to good use by hosting a charity TV show, which raised over a million pounds. At one point, he even produced his own shows.
